چکیده

examine the duration of restart period that would be needed to recycle to the work force with optimal performance. Based on the results of this study, a second, Phase II, study was conducted between February 26 and October 31, 2010, to examine an additional experimental condition. This technical report presents the design, methods, research findings, and conclusions of the Phase II study. The most important finding was that a restart period containing two biological nights (58 hours in duration as implemented in this study), relative to a restart period with only one biological night (34 hours per the present hours of service regulations), may improve the effectiveness of the restart period for nighttime driving operations, yielding a greater potential for recovery from fatigue before recycling to the work force. This technical report may be of interest to anyone interested in fatigue and its management in commercial motor vehicle operations and other modes of transportation. This is the final report of the study. NOTICE This document is disseminated under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Transportation in the interest of information exchange. Effect of starvation on the performance and re-acclimation of biotrickling filters for air pollution control.

Biotrickling filters for air pollution control are expected to encounter fluctuating conditions or periods without pollutant supply. In the present study, we investigated the effect of pollutant starvation in bench-scale biotrickling filters treating toluene. The experimental protocol consisted of starving biotrickling filters under various conditions: with or without airflow, with or without l...

Phase II monitoring of multivariate simple linear profiles with estimated parameters

In some applications of statistical process monitoring, a quality characteristic can be characterized by linear regression relationships between several response variables and one explanatory variable, which is referred to as a “multivariate simple linear profile.” It is usually assumed that the process parameters are known in Phase II. However, in most applications, this assumption is viola...

Design and Control of Gas-Phase Reactor/Recycle Processes with Reversible Exothermic Reactions

A gas-phase reactor with reversible exothermic reactions is the classical example of the many tradeoffs between operating costs and capital costs. Because per-pass conversion is limited by chemical equilibrium, recycle is almost always needed, and this gas recycle is expensive because of the high capital cost and high energy cost of gas compression. At low temperatures, conversion is limited by...

Investigation of the effect of growth period duration on quality and quantity yield of sugar beet (Beta Vulgaris L.) under autumn cultivation in Ilam province

Modification of planting season from spring to autumn in order to use green water, has been introduced as an effective and consistent agronomic strategy with climate change. For this purpose and in order to increase the cultivation of autumn sugar beet as a strategic crops in increasing the self-sufficiency of sugar in the country, it is necessary to implement research programs including determ...
